GOAN Fair Use Policy (FUP)
Last updated: 7/12/2025
Welcome to GOAN, the social eSIM made for remote founders, creatives, and nomads who jump countries like tabs on Chrome.
We want every GOAN member to enjoy fast, reliable data everywhere they go.
To make that possible, we run a Fair Use Policy (“FUP”) during our 60-day trial period with our network partners.
This helps us keep connections smooth, pricing fair, and speeds high for everyone in the community.
1. Why we have a Fair Use Policy
During our current trial phase, GOAN users receive access to premium global data plans at a heavily discounted wholesale rate.
These plans are powered by multiple network partners across 100+ countries, and each partner sets specific monthly usage thresholds.
Our FUP helps ensure:
High-quality speeds for all GOAN members
A healthy relationship with our network partners
A sustainable business model that allows us to expand to higher-data plans in the future
2. Your Monthly Data Allowance (20GB FUP)
Every GOAN plan currently includes:
20GB of high-speed data per monthly cycle
Once you hit the 20GB threshold, your speeds may be reduced or your service may pause depending on the network in the country you're in.
This is normal, expected, and part of the agreement with our partner networks.
Don’t worry — we’ll notify you before this happens.
You’ll get an email or WhatsApp message when you’re close to the limit and again when you reach it.
3. What happens when you cross the FUP?
If you exceed 20GB in a cycle, one of the following may occur (depending on local carrier rules):
Your speed may drop temporarily
Your plan may pause until your next billing cycle
You may need to purchase a top-up
In some cases, we may manually re-activate your plan
Because we’re still in a trial phase, certain top-ups may require manual processing by the GOAN team.
We’re working toward automating this in the upcoming app.
4. Usage Not Allowed (to keep GOAN alive & well)
We don’t allow usage patterns that carriers classify as “abusive,” such as:
Permanent hotspot/tethering to multiple devices
Running data-hungry servers or background processes
Using SIMs for streaming farms, VPN tunneling, enterprise workloads, or similar high-burn activity
Downloading or uploading unusually large files that exceed typical nomad usage
If we detect suspicious activity, we may temporarily suspend the line while we verify.
5. How GOAN monitors and protects your usage
We don’t track your browsing, messages, or content — only the amount of data you use.
This is required by our network partners to keep you connected.
During the 60-day trial period, we closely monitor:
Average data consumed per user
How many users exceed the FUP
Top-up requests
Usage patterns across countries
Network reliability
This helps us unlock higher limits (e.g., 50GB FUP) with our partner in the next negotiation round.
6. Top-Ups & Additional Data
If you hit your limit and need extra data, you can request a top-up via:
Email
WhatsApp
Your GOAN dashboard (once the feature launches)
Top-ups may take a few minutes to process because we’re currently doing them manually.
We aim to automate this fully after our 60-day sprint.
7. Changes to the Fair Use Policy
As GOAN expands to more countries and negotiates better data terms (hello future 50GB FUP 👀), we may update this policy.
All updates will be posted here and shared with active subscribers.
8. Questions? Chat with us anytime.
We’re founders too, and we get the importance of reliable internet when you’re halfway across the world.
If you ever run into speed, activation, or top-up issues, message us, we respond fast.
